Your Heart is Mine by Nicole Thorn

Series: Our Hearts Are Lost

Book #: 1

Genre: New Adult, Horror Romance,

My Rating: 4 hearts

Cover Rating: 3/5 stars

Isaiah Barker is a deputy in a small town in Southern California. For the past few months, the town has been plagued by a serial killer. Another serial killer. The Ripper, as the locals call him. Isaiah is far less sloppy than this new killer in town. This new killer makes a habit of killing young women and harvesting their organs before leaving the bodies on display for the townspeople to find.
The case was going slow until Rocelyn Blum moved to town. Isaiah takes a liking to her instantly, and it forces him into a situation where his only option is to set up his latest kill to make it look like The Ripper did it. The killer doesn’t take too kindly to being blamed for someone else’s work, so he decides to take it out on Rocelyn. Isaiah has to find The Ripper before his game ends and he takes away the only person in Isaiah’s life that can make him feel human.

My Thoughts:

Wow. Who knew a horror romance could work…but Nicole Thorn sure makes this one work! And, do I ever love me a good forbidden romance?? Yes, yes I do!

I was immediately pulled into this story, like first sentence. It’s told from both Isaiah and Rocelyn’s (Lynn) point of view, which I really liked. Shortly after she moves to town with her family, she finds out there’s a serial killer on the loose. She’s terrified, as she should be, when she finds out about it. Listen, I grew up in Southern California, in the LA area, in the mid-80’s, when the Night Stalker aka Richard Ramirez, was terrorizing the city. It was horrifying! I could barely sleep at night. So I understand how Lynn was feeling. Little does she know the man she’s going to fall for is just that.

Isaiah is a really interesting character and he’s far more human than he gives himself credit for. He feels an immediate pull towards Lynnie and that creeped me out a tiny bit at first because I wasn’t sure about his age, but I knew he was older than 22 and Lynn is 17 and in high school, so I was apprehensive about any type of relationship forming.

You do eventually find out his age and it’s not as bad as I thought. Plus, nothing happens between them until after she turns 18, so that was good. I would’ve stopped reading if anything had happened prior to that.

I really enjoyed their romance, it was unusual and they really did bring out the best in each other. And that cliffhanger!!! Can’t wait for the next book. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well the two genres meshed. It’s really down to Nicole Thorn’s writing. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves to read romance and/or horror. Fabulous read!

I’m obsessed with books. I have been since the 3rd grade, which was a LONG time ago! I also create book related products and I design book covers. When I’m not doing the above mentioned things, I enjoy watching far too much TV, collecting Funko Pops, spending time with my family and crazy animals, and working on my very first novel.
